Scotia Recycling Limited
Atlantic Canada's leading paper recycling facility, Scotia Recycling Limited, was established in 1976. To meet the growing demands for OCC and ONP from affiliated companies Minas Basin Pulp and Power and CKF Inc., Scotia Recycling constructed a new 30,000 square foot modern processing facility in 2000 in Dartmouth's Burnside Industrial Park. Additional processing facilities were also commissioned in Truro, N.S., Berwick, N.S., Bridgewater, N.S., Stellarton, N.S., and Moncton, N.B.
Due to greater awareness of environmental issues and waste reduction, our office paper-recycling program has become very popular. Scotia Recycling has over 3,000 bins placed in businesses in the Halifax Regional Municipality to provide our unique service of collecting their sorted office paper from their offices on a daily basis.
Scotia Recycling currently collects, bales and delivers over 125,000 tonnes of secondary fiber annually. Several tractor-trailer units and compactor trucks have been purchased to service these contracts on a daily basis. Scotia Recycling services numerous national retail stores in the Atlantic Canada region, providing balers and pick-up logistics for these locations. Scotia Recycling also places balers in locations that accumulate loose secondary fiber, today over 85 balers are in place.
Expansion of the sales department has allowed Scotia Recycling to become a recognized professional broker and exporter of quality secondary fiber and various plastic film grades. Export containers can be loaded at our Dartmouth facility and be delivered to the Port of Halifax in less than an hour, destined for markets around the world.
Scotia Recycling's geographical area continues to expand with tractor-trailer routes now in place in Quebec and New England. Additional retail store contracts have been entered into in these areas and supply agreements with regional baling facilities have been entered. In New England, supply agreements have been established with the State of Maine through the Maine Resource Recovery Association and with the State of New Hampshire through the Northeast Resource Recovery Association.
